Restoration of Palazzo del Tau in Pistoia ahead of Marino Marini exhibition
Palazzo del Tau in Pistoia, a 14th-century former hospice adjacent to the church of Sant'Antonio Abate, now houses the Fondazione Marino Marini. A major restoration of its facade is underway, prompted by falling plaster and paint flaking. Foundation President Paolo Pedrazzini described it as extraordinary maintenance, not structural work. Director Maria Teresa Tosi stated the scaffolding will be removed before autumn. The intervention focused on plaster damaged by moisture and pietra serena stone elements, which showed material loss, especially on the terrace and portal. Consolidation and protective coatings were applied. The restored palace will welcome visitors to the Marini collection. A major exhibition on the sculptor, featuring over 120 works by Marini and his peers, will open at Palazzo Fabroni in September 2017, later traveling to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, where one of Marini's works overlooks the Grand Canal.
