Restoration of Mauro Staccioli's monumental sculptures in Volterra completed
A structural revision and restoration campaign of Mauro Staccioli's monumental environmental sculptures in Volterra has concluded after several months. The last such intervention occurred in 2009, when Volterra honored the artist with a major exhibition titled 'Luoghi d’esperienza' that involved squares and museum spaces in the town and the surrounding Val di Cecina area, displaying imposing environmental works. Of the 20 installations created for that occasion, ten remained permanently, forming an open-air museum. The restoration began in autumn 2022 and ended in January 2023, prompted by the 'Volterra 22. First Tuscan City of Culture' celebrations, which led the local administration to allocate funds for completely redoing some works, repositioning, or consolidating them, according to curator Sergio Borghesi. The intervention was financed with €10,000. The works are now visible and well-signposted, also thanks to the 'Esplora Staccioli' mobile app that allows visitors to tour all sculptures choosing suitable routes.
