Restoration of 18th-century Chinese-style cabinets at Palazzo Graneri in Turin

Established in 2006 within the historic Palazzo Graneri in Turin, the Circolo dei lettori has successfully restored its Gabinetti alla china, intimate rooms adorned with Oriental-inspired designs, including wooden boiserie and painted ceilings. This initiative was a joint effort involving the Fondazione Centro Conservazione e Restauro "La Venaria Reale," the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the metropolitan city of Turin, and the Circolo dei lettori, with backing from Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo and REAMSGR-Real Estate Asset Management. Michela Cardinali, director of the CCR Restoration Laboratories, highlighted that scientific analysis uncovered prior undocumented restorations that had harmed the boiserie and vault. Elena Loewenthal, director of the Fondazione Circolo dei lettori, expressed excitement about offering guided tours of the cabinet and the newly restored Salotto di Cavour, enriching the cultural offerings at Palazzo Graneri della Roccia.
