Resonant Histories Exhibition Explores Indian-Arab Modernist Ties at CSMVS Mumbai

exhibition · 2026-04-22

Titled Resonant Histories: India and the Arab World, this group exhibition is currently on display at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya. Curated by Puja Vaish and Suheyla Takesh, it showcases the work of 67 artists from India and various Arab countries. Organized by the Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation in collaboration with Sharjah's Barjeel Art Foundation, the initiative was launched by Sultan Sooud Al-Qassemi and Dr. Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Opening with Mona Hatoum's 2007 piece Bukhara (red), the exhibition features seven thematic sections, including significant pieces like Ali Hassan's 1948 portrait of Gandhi, Naim Ismail's 1969 Al Fiddaiyoun, and Abdul Qader Al Rais's Waiting from around 1970. It will be available for viewing until February 15, with the goal of filling gaps in Eurocentric art narratives.
