Residenze Digitali: Third Edition Supports Performative Arts Online

The third edition of Residenze Digitali, an initiative supporting performative projects for the web, has concluded. The six winning projects span performing arts (gruppo nanou, Teatrino Giullare), gaming (Kamilia Kard, Christina G. Hadley, Ultravioletto), and interactive design (BOTH Industries). Luca Ricci, director of Capotrave/Kilowatt and project lead, explained that the initiative emerged during the pandemic lockdown to create structured digital performances, not mere transfers of stage works. The network includes Armunia, Amat, and Anghiari Danse Hub. Each project receives €3,500 and seven months of mentorship. The winners were selected for creative use of the digital medium, with themes including liveness, interactivity, and contemporary relevance. Teatrino Giullare reinterpreted the Oresteia for Pasolini's centenary; gruppo nanou shifts choreographic writing to the camera; Kamilia Kard and Christina G. Hadley create avatar-based worlds; Ultravioletto built a digital desert exploring life and death; BOTH Industries performed a live streaming piece. Ricci noted that digital creation in performing arts is still nascent, with a need for dramaturgical depth. Accessibility is prioritized over advanced technology. The initiative aims to build a new audience by bridging tech enthusiasts and performing arts followers.
