Reset: Christophe Kihm's Curatorial Reset at Fondation Ricard

Christophe Kihm curated 'Reset' at Fondation d'entreprise Ricard pour l'art contemporain in Paris, from January 19 to February 27, 2010. The exhibition rethinks the exhibition form itself, treating it as a problem rather than a display. Kihm did not select works; all were produced specifically for the show. Artists employed spatial and temporal strategies to create a new, augmented, and virtualized space within the architecture. The logic of hanging and correspondence is disrupted by operations of decoupling and intermittence. Works include Sarah Lis's milky water trough and barely visible cartel; Tamara de Wehr's bifacial portrait of Lee Van Cleef via perforation; Bertille Bak's serial worker housing architecture echoed by a stamp that gradually builds a brick wall over the exhibition's duration; Florian Pugnaire's kung-fu film compressed into materials; Gabriel Abrantes and Benjamin Crotty's film projected once daily, periodically turning the exhibition into a screening room; and Bertrand Dezoteux's office designed with 3D modeling software as a hermetic projection of the exhibition process. Abrantes and Crotty's Google Earth scouting for their film 'Liberdade' (shot in Luanda) plays on an LCD screen, suggesting a synthetic quality. The exhibition presents itself as an artificial space that continually shifts and reconstructs itself without dematerialization.
