Renzo Piano to Design Major Cultural Center in Boca Raton, Florida
Renzo Piano's studio RPBW has been selected to design The Center for Arts and Innovation in Boca Raton, Florida, a large cultural hub set to open in 2025. The project will accommodate up to 6,000 people, featuring event spaces, performance areas, entrepreneurial development zones, and a research and education center focused on scientific subjects. Located next to the Boca Raton Museum of Art at the northern end of Mizner Park, the center will incorporate the existing amphitheater. The commission was awarded after a competitive process involving 22 finalists, including OMA, Foster + Partners, and Ennead. The project is led by real estate developer Camilo Miguel Jr., who chairs the building committee, and has been endorsed by Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer. The center is expected to generate over $1.3 billion in economic impact within its first five years. This marks RPBW's first cultural project in Florida, though the studio is also working on the new Sarasota Performing Arts Center and the Eighty Seven Park residential complex in Miami Beach. Piano, a Pritzker Prize winner, previously designed the Whitney Museum in New York, the Academy Museum in Los Angeles, the Morgan Library, the New York Times Building, and the Menil Collection in Houston.
