Renzi on Culture Investment, Reggio Museum Reopens, AmEx Funds Rome

Former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, writing in L'Unità, asserts that Italy is finally investing heavily in culture, citing projects at Pompeii, Brera, Uffizi, Caserta, Tremiti, Rome, Port of Trieste, Turin, Capodimonte, San Luca in Bologna, and Ventotene. He argues that cultural investment fosters national pride and a better future, emphasizing the importance of small-town heritage sites like cinemas, theaters, and churches. Meanwhile, the Museo Nazionale Archeologico di Reggio Calabria reopened on April 30, attracting 9,027 visitors in its first two days and averaging 600 daily. The museum now houses the Riace bronzes in a new four-story, 200-vitrine space. American Express has pledged $1 million (€880,000) to the World Monuments Fund for global cultural heritage restoration, with $250,000 (€220,000) allocated to restoring the Uccelliere Farnese on the Palatine Hill in Rome, according to Italia Oggi. However, the same source reports that the funds are designated for the Arch of Janus in the Forum Boarium, which has been closed to the public since 1993.
