Renovated London Terrace by Studio 163 Architects Folds Concrete Floor into Garden Planters

architecture-design · 2026-08-19

In 2022, Studio 163 Architects undertook a renovation of a three-storey terrace located on Falkland Road in Kentish Town, London, for a couple with design expertise and two children. To tackle issues of insufficient daylight, low head height, and inadequate storage on the ground floor, the project involved a comprehensive refurbishment and a full-width rear extension. A beige polished concrete datum line signifies the transition between the kitchen-dining area and the living room, with the same flooring extending to the patio, which features built-in planters. Two rooflights boost natural illumination, while custom oak joinery and reclaimed materials create a seamless blend of old and new. The rear facade was re-rendered and left unpainted, complementing the surrounding brickwork.
