Renesa and House of Knots launch Brick by Brick rug collection at Milan design week

architecture-design · 2026-05-25

Architecture studio Renesa collaborated with Indian rug brand House of Knots to create Brick by Brick, a series of hand-tufted collectible rugs that abstract the brick as architecture's fundamental unit. Designed by Renesa's Janvi Bhatia, the rugs merge plan, section, and elevation into a single textural plane, referencing courtyards, stepwells, and masonry patterns from Indian architecture. Each rug takes 50–60 days to produce by master artisans in Bhadohi, India, using wool and silk blends with varying pile heights and custom dyes evoking earthen landscapes and terracotta. The collection debuted at Alcova during Milan design week. Principal architect Sanchit Arora described the brick as a 'silent constant' across Indian vernacular and modern practices, aiming to provoke thinking about architecture beyond buildings. CEO Shivam Agarwal noted that on-ground experimentation by artisans refined gradients and edges. The rugs are positioned as architectural artefacts where each knot becomes a unit of construction.
