Rene Matić wins 2026 Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize
Rene Matić has received the £30,000 Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize for their exhibition, AS OPPOSED TO THE TRUTH, which will be on display at CCA Berlin from November 8, 2024, to February 15, 2025. This London-based artist, who works with photography, film, installation, and sound, explores themes like identity, intimacy, race, gender, and belonging. Matić was chosen from a shortlist that included Jane Evelyn Atwood, Weronika Gęsicka, and Amak Mahmoodian, who each received £5,000. Anne-Marie Beckmann, a jury member, praised Matić for capturing everyday life with warmth and emphasizing the significance of chosen family. The prize, introduced in 1996, honors exceptional contemporary photography contributions in Europe. Currently, Matić's work is featured at the Photographers' Gallery in London until June 7.
