festival-fair · 2026-04-24

The Rencontres d'Arles 2013 took place from July 1 to September 22 and showcased more than fifty exhibitions, one of which was 'Arles in Black.' At Friche La Belle de Mai, from July 6 to September 29, Patrick Tosani curated 'Des images comme des oiseaux,' featuring 676 images from 181 artists selected from a pool of 12,000. The exhibition was organized alphabetically, disregarding traditional hierarchies, and included a random image generator by Pierre Giner. Notable exhibits comprised a retrospective of Sergio Larrain, Alfredo Jaar's 'Politique des images,' and 'Transition, paysage social,' which highlighted six photographers from France and six from South Africa. Wolfgang Tillmans showcased 'Neue Welt,' while Hiroshi Sugimoto's moonrise prints were displayed at Espace Van Gogh. Additionally, Christian Lacroix curated 'Mon île de Montmajour,' and Giuseppe Penone's 'Entre les lignes' examined the intersection of photography and sculpture.
