Renato Varese retrospective and donation at Palazzo Sarcinelli, Conegliano
A retrospective titled "Varese e Conegliano. Un artista, una donazione, una città" at Palazzo Sarcinelli in Conegliano honors Renato Varese, a multifaceted artist who died in December 2024 at age 98. Curated by Lorena Gava, the exhibition features about fifty works spanning painting and graphics, showcasing his "Gothic" style influenced by medieval atmospheres, Egon Schiele, and Cubism. Varese, who collaborated with the Fucina degli Angeli in Murano (founded by Egidio Costantini and supported by Peggy Guggenheim), had exhibited internationally in Paris, New York, and London. His heirs donated thirteen works (paintings and graphics) to the city's collections, now housed in the "Sala L. R. Varese" at Palazzo Sarcinelli. The donation includes the large canvas "Beati gli ultimi" (1997), depicting a procession led by a bishop on horseback. The exhibition runs until June 7, 2026.
