Renato Galante's 'Mind Your Step' at Momart Gallery, Matera
Renato Galante (born 1962 in Taranto) presents 'Mind Your Step' at Momart Gallery in Matera, a series of complex works on paper created during his travels between Amsterdam and Puglia. After nearly thirty years in Amsterdam, Galante has returned to Grottaglie, Puglia. The exhibition, curated by Isabella Battista, explores themes of travel and automatic gesture through layered signs, symbols, allegories, chromatic flows, and hallucinated writings and cartographies. The title references the recorded announcement at Schiphol Airport, a space of transit. The works, some framed, are conceived as polyptychs assembled from fragments produced in recent years during his back-and-forth between Amsterdam and Puglia. The gallery continues its commitment to contemporary art in Matera.
