Renata Rampazzi's 'Cruor' Exhibition at Museo Carlo Bilotti Confronts Gender Violence

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Museo Carlo Bilotti in Rome is hosting a solo exhibition of works by Renata Rampazzi (born 1948, Turin) curated by Claudio Strinati, addressing gender-based violence through abstract paintings and an immersive installation. The show features pieces from 1977 to 2020, including compositions such as 'Ferite', 'Sospensioni Rosse', and 'Lacerazioni', culminating in the installation 'Cruor' (2018), created with set designer Leila Fteita and first presented at the Fondazione Cini in Venice. 'Cruor' (Latin for blood) envelops visitors in a room with hanging painted drapes and a soundscape by Minassian, Ligeti, and Gerbarec, evoking a procession of mourners. Strinati describes the work as drawing from ancient tradition while asserting a powerful modernity. The exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual catalogue (Edizioni Sabinae) with texts by Dacia Maraini, Maria Vittoria Marini Clarelli, and Strinati, plus a statement by the artist. A portion of sales proceeds will be donated to the association Differenza Donna. Strinati stated, 'When the phenomenon of femicide and violence against women began, I wanted to express my point of view, and accompanying a woman artist who deals with these themes was not only natural but a true privilege.'
