Renaissance Venice Blockbuster at Thyssen-Bornemisza Madrid
The Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid is hosting 'Il Rinascimento a Venezia', which will be open until September 24, 2017. Curated by Fernando Checa, this exhibition showcases Venetian paintings from the 16th century, featuring notable pieces such as Tintoretto's 'Paradiso,' Carpaccio's 'Young Knight in a Landscape,' and creations by Titian, Palma il Vecchio, and Jacopo Bassano. Among the highlights are a restored 'Annunciation' by Sansovino, portraits from Moroni and Veronese, and somber youths depicted by Giorgione and Lorenzo Lotto. The exhibition includes around twenty loans from Italian museums, including Veronese's 'Rape of Europa' and Titian's 'Portrait of Francesco Maria della Rovere,' examining the influence of Venetian style on artists from Rembrandt to Rothko, with late works by Titian and Veronese foreshadowing Mannerism and Caravaggio.
