Renaissance Masterpieces from Musée Jacquemart-André Travel to Rome

exhibition · 2026-05-04

The exhibition 'Capolavori rinascimentali. Il Museo Jacquemart-André da Parigi a Roma' presents six works from the Musée Jacquemart-André in Paris, curated by Michele Di Monte. The show highlights the refined taste of collectors Edouard André and Nélie Jacquemart, who bequeathed their collection to the French state in 1912. Among the highlights are two masterpieces by Andrea Mantegna: 'Madonna with Child between Saints Jerome and Louis of Toulouse' (1455) and 'Ecce Homo' (c. 1500). Mantegna stayed in Rome from 1488 to 1490 at the invitation of Pope Innocent VIII to decorate the Belvedere Chapel, but those frescoes were lost in 18th-century renovations, and no autograph works by the artist remain in the capital. The exhibition thus offers a rare chance to see Mantegna's work in Rome. Also on view are a rare parchment by Giorgio Schiavone, 'Portrait of a Man' (c. 1460), reflecting the influence of Francesco Squarcione; a drawing from the Mantegna school, 'Hercules and Antaeus'; and Andrea Briosco's bronze 'Moses' (1513). The exhibition is presented by Artribune and runs in Rome.
