REMO project transforms Rome school into art workshop and archive
The REMO initiative, spearheaded by Istituto comprensivo Regina Margherita in Rome as part of the MiBACT program 'Scuola spazio aperto alla cultura' in collaboration with Miur, turned the school into an artistic hub for middle and elementary students. Artists Carlo de Meo, Claudio Martinez, and Luana Perilli worked alongside students to create artwork showcased in the school and a bookshop through Stamperia del Tevere. Other artists enhanced locker room areas. The project revitalized a cinema space of 150 square meters with 85 seats, facilitated by Elisabetta Catamo and backed by MiBACT and additional partners. A historical archive featuring 1,550 documents from 1888 to 1960 was made available, with Raffaella Sermoneta emphasizing records on Jewish children following the 1938 laws. Music classes also performed in Trastevere. Cinzia Russo, the project leader, underscored the importance of art in education.
