Remo Buti, radical architect and designer, dies at 89

Remo Buti, a prominent member of the Radical Architecture movement and one of the founders of the Global Tools laboratory, passed away in Florence at the age of 89. He was born in 1932 into a family of ceramists and earned his architecture degree from the University of Florence, initially working as a ceramist. In the 1960s, he became involved with the Radical Architecture movement alongside Gianni Pettena. On January 12, 1973, he helped establish Global Tools with notable collaborators such as Ettore Sottsass Jr. and Ugo La Pietra. Buti designed the Language Center at the University of Florence in 1985 and won a competition for the historic center of Castel di Sangro in 1988. He taught as a professor from 1982 until 2002, influencing many designers, as documented in "Varie-età. Remo Buti. 1982-2002."
