Remo Brindisi's Casa Museo: An Alternative Museum on the Adriatic Coast

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

In 1970, Remo Brindisi opened his Casa Museo at Lido di Spina, a project crafted by architect Nanda Vigo. The construction, which started in 1968, was finalized in 1973 and features a central cylinder, a helical staircase, and bespoke furnishings. Serving as president of the Triennale Milano in 1972, Brindisi curated nearly 2,000 pieces that capture 20th-century art, particularly from Milan during the 1950s to 70s. Among the highlights are Lucio Fontana's 'Cavallo' and creations by renowned artists like Medardo Rosso and Warhol. Following Brindisi's passing in 1996, the Comune di Comacchio took ownership of the museum, where his tomb has resided in the garden since 2004. The museum is open during the day in spring and autumn, by appointment in winter, and in the evenings during summer.
