Remembering Danilo Guerri, Architect of Quiet Resistance
Luca Molinari pays tribute to Danilo Guerri (1939–2016), an Italian architect who worked against the grain of contemporary architectural trends. Guerri's practice was rooted in drawing, craftsmanship, and a deep engagement with historical and modern precedents—from the houses of Oswald Mathias Ungers in Cologne to the works of James Stirling, Jorn Utzon, and Luigi Moretti. He found in the Marche region a fertile ground for his vision, designing projects like the Teatro delle Muse in Ancona. Guerri rejected the superficiality of concept-driven architecture, insisting instead on a technically and artistically dense process that involved close collaboration with artisans. His work, often mislabeled as part of the Scuola Romana, deserves proper recognition in architectural history. Molinari, a professor of contemporary architecture history at SUN (Seconda Università degli Studi di Napoli), wrote this remembrance for Artribune.
