Rembrandt's Night Watch online in 44.8 gigapixel
The Rijksmuseum has published a 44.8 gigapixel photograph of Rembrandt's Night Watch on its website as part of Operation Night Watch. The image, created by the museum's imaging team led by data scientist Robert Erdmann, consists of 528 exposures stitched together using neural networks. It allows scientists to study details remotely during the coronavirus lockdown and will help track future deterioration. The research phase resumed on May 13 behind closed doors, with a maximum of two people working at a time while maintaining 1.5 meters distance. The restoration phase, originally scheduled for after summer 2020, has been postponed to early 2021.
