REMAX and Real Brokerage Merge as Imploded Real-Estate Stocks Tie the Knot

REMAX Holdings and Real Brokerage announced a merger on April 27, 2026, joining two companies whose shares had plummeted from their peaks. REMAX shares had fallen 90% from their October 2017 high through Thursday before deal rumors emerged, while Real shares had dropped 60% through Thursday. On Friday and Monday combined, REMAX surged 51% to $9.94, still 85% below its all-time high, while Real plunged 23% to $2.02, now 70% below its August 2024 peak. Under the deal, REMAX shareholders can choose $13.80 per share in cash or 5.15 shares of the combined entity, Real REMAX Group. However, the cash payout is capped at $80 million, meaning if all shareholders opt for cash, they would receive only about a quarter of their shares in cash and the rest in stock. REMAX, founded in 1973, franchises brokerages in 120 countries and operates Motto Mortgage in the US. Real, a technology-powered platform, went public in Canada in 2020 via a Capital Pool Company merger and began trading on the Nasdaq in June 2021. This acquisition follows a wave of consolidation among imploded real-estate brokerage stocks, including Compass acquiring Anywhere Real Estate in early 2026, and Rocket Companies buying Redfin in 2025.
