Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter Transforms Danish Merchant Estate into Cultural Destination
Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter has designed SMK Thy and the Nature Village at Doverodde Købmandsgård, a historic merchant estate on the edge of the Limfjord in Northern Jutland, Denmark. The 3,300 m² project, completed in 2025, adaptively reuses existing structures to create a cultural and landscape destination that integrates art, landscape, and community. The design team includes lead architects Reiulf Ramstad, Per Fischer, Nikolaj Knudsen, and Mads Krogshede, with structural engineering by EKJ Rådgivende Ingeniører. Photographs are by Ramus Hjortshøj. The project preserves the historic character of the trading complex while opening the ensemble of warehouses around a courtyard toward the fjord and surrounding landscapes of Thy.
