Regione Lombardia launches international competition for new iconic headquarters in Milan

ARIA S.p.A., the Regional Agency for Innovation and Procurement, has announced a two-stage international design competition for the new Palazzo Sistema headquarters in Milan, Italy. The project aims to replace an existing building with a new, iconic, sustainable, and functional structure that will house entities and companies of the Sistema di Regione Lombardia. The site is located between Via Pola, Via Taramelli, Via Abbadesse, and Via Rosellini, near Palazzo Lombardia, Palazzo Pirelli, the Isola district, Scalo Farini, Porta Nuova, and Porta Garibaldi. The competition emphasizes environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, human-centered design, innovative construction technologies, sustainable mobility, and iconic integration with the urban context. Five finalists will be selected by a jury composed of representatives from Regione Lombardia, architects, engineers, and the contracting authority. The first phase submission deadline is May 24, 2022; the second phase closes on September 6, 2022. The total investment is €128 million, with prizes exceeding €1 million, including €839,852.43 for the winner, who will also develop the technical and economic feasibility project and may be assigned definitive and executive design.
