Regional Resonances: Transnational Art in 1970s Central Eastern Europe

A special issue of ARTMargins Online, edited by Zsuzsa László, explores the transnational dimensions of Central East European art in the 1970s. The issue challenges Cold War-era perceptions that homogenized state-socialist art scenes and overlooked their diverse Western connections. It questions whether dialogue existed among artists across different state-socialist societies, moving beyond negative comparisons with Western counterparts. The publication seeks to uncover regional resonances and the search for transnationalism in the art of the period.
