Regina Vater reissues 1977 artist book X-Range, exploring domestic spaces of Oiticica, Cage, Clark, and Acconci.
Regina Vater, a trailblazer in Brazil's video art and installation scene, has released a new edition of her 1977 artist book X-Range, which was first published in New York. This book explores the home environments of four artistic peers—Hélio Oiticica, John Cage, Lygia Clark, and Vito Acconci—through a blend of photography and visual poetry. Vater crafted unique visual poems for each artist, utilizing techniques like body imprints, tears, folds, and tape. Of the original 30 copies from 1977, only one remains with the artist. The updated edition features 1,500 copies while preserving its performative aspects. Simultaneously, Vater's retrospective 'Oxalá que dê Bom Tempo' at MAC Niterói showcases 70 pieces, including installations and videos, curated by Pablo León de La Barra and Raphael Fonseca, focusing on themes of women, body, and nature, with a highlight on the 1976 work 'Tina América.' This exhibition underscores Vater's significance in contemporary Brazilian art.
