Regina Cassolo retrospective to open at expanded MANLo in Vigevano
The MANLo – Museo Archeologico Nazionale della Lomellina in Vigevano will double its exhibition space by March 2026, reclaiming rooms on the first floor of the third stable of the Castello Sforzesco. The expansion coincides with a major retrospective dedicated to Regina Cassolo (born 1894 in Mede Lomellina), an experimental artist associated with the Second Futurist movement in Milan. The exhibition, titled "Regina. Sperimentatrice geniale," will present 109 works alongside the museum's archaeological collection. Three recently restored pieces were previewed: "Amante dell'aviatore" (1935, aluminum), a hybrid between painting and sculpture; a plaster "Fiore" (1949-1950) tending toward abstraction; and a drawing "Sempre vivum montanum" from a private herbarium Cassolo created in the 1940s. The show is curated by MANLo director Stefania Bossi with Valentina Cane and Michele Tavola, divided into four sections: "Regina in breve" (biographical introduction), "Tradizione e innovazione" (tradition vs. experimentation), "Dentro e fuori il Futurismo" (engagement with and departure from Futurism), and "Natura" (nature-themed drawings and collages). The archaeological collection on the ground floor will dialogue with Cassolo's works, linking the museum to the Lomellina territory.
