Regina Bogat Reflects on Artistic Freedom and Influences in New Jersey Studio Interview

artist · 2026-04-22

In a two-year-old interview at her studio in New Jersey, Regina Bogat reflects on her artistic path. Her current exhibition, showcasing pieces from the 1990s, is open until March 2. After their Manhattan loft was slated for demolition, Bogat relocated to New Jersey in 1972 with her husband, Alfred Jensen. She recalls the vibrant New York art scene of the 1940s and 1950s, heavily influenced by Abstract Expressionists and European artists fleeing WWII. Learning collage techniques from Max Ernst and drawing inspiration from Giorgio de Chirico, Bogat experimented with unconventional materials during the 1960s and 1970s, participating in "Women Choose Women." Additionally, her 2015 Palmyra series will be displayed at Zürcher Gallery until April 29, 2016.
