Reggia di Caserta awarded three Michelin Green Guide stars

award · 2026-04-27

The Royal Palace of Caserta will receive three stars from the Michelin Green Guide on May 12, 2023, recognizing it as an unmissable tourist destination. The award ceremony will be led by Philippe Orain, director of the Green Guides, and hosted by Tiziana Maffei, director of the Reggia. The date coincides with the 250th anniversary of the death of Luigi Vanvitelli, the architect who designed the palace and gardens. The Green Guide, launched in 1926 by André and Edouard Michelin, awards one to three stars to cities and sites based on criteria including first impression, heritage richness, historical importance, beauty, authenticity, and quality of management and hospitality. The Reggia joins other three-star Italian sites such as Rome, Capri, Alberobello, Pompeii, Herculaneum, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia in Ravenna, the Farnese Theatre in Parma, the Uffizi, and the MArTa in Taranto. The recognition reflects the team's efforts to improve visitor experience and site management. The Reggia is now also accessible from Naples via the historic Reggia Express train on special dates. On May 13, the palace will participate in the European Night of Museums, staying open until 10:15 PM with a concert by the Ensemble of the Caserta Chamber Orchestra in the Palatine Chapel.
