Refugio Outdoor's Atalaya: A 36 m² Observation Retreat in Chile

Chilean architecture firm Refugio Outdoor has designed Vivienda Atalaya, a 36-square-meter cabin located in an unspecified setting in Chile. The project, slated for 2026, is curated by Valentina Díaz and led by architect Felipe Valdivia, with design by Lukas Yunge and technical support from Jorge Alvarado. The structure, categorized under 'Cabañas & Lodges', reinterprets the traditional concept of a watchtower (atalaya) as a vantage point for observation and analysis, but without the need for extreme height or visual dominance. Instead, it emphasizes elevated openings to achieve perspective, going beyond mere surveillance. The cabin's materials and products are sourced from Arauco, DVP, MK, Molino Viejo, and Vesto.
