Refik Anadol Transforms Disney Hall with AI Projections
From September 28 to October 6, 2018, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, designed by Frank Gehry in 2003, will be transformed nightly from 7:30 to 11:30 PM by Refik Anadol's projection piece "WDCH Dreams." The Turkish artist fed over 45 terabytes of digital archives from the Los Angeles Philharmonic into AI algorithms to generate the visuals, which metaphorically animate the building's "subconscious." Anadol describes the work as a radical visualization of the institution's first century and an exploration of synergies between art and technology, architecture and memory. Inside the Ira Gershwin Gallery, an interactive installation accompanies the exterior projections.
