reEDIT's upcycled chess table from bamboo and tea waste debuts at Milan Design Week 2026

architecture-design · 2026-04-24

Circular design studio reEDIT makes its European debut at Milan Design Week 2026 with The Upcycled Gambit — Bamboo & Brew Chess Table Set, exhibited at Isola's No Space for Waste exhibition at Fabbrica Sassetti. The project draws inspiration from Xiangqi games played on Hong Kong streets, translating communal play into an inhabitable object. The table and stools are made from scrap bamboo construction scaffolding, milk tea waste, and recycled plastic, designed for disassembly and reconstruction. The piece is part of No Space for Waste, Isola's recurring exhibition in its third edition, which also includes parallel shows: Isola Design Gallery (seventh edition), Rasa — The Indian Collective, and Dutch Atelier. Other installations at the venue include LE LABO 1.0 by Baguette Studio (live production of lamps from remoldable natural wax), IAMMI's UNIT-01 (translucent modular volume from second-life plastic), and University of Montenegro's MOCK UP JUNK LAB. Also featured is YONT Studio's Brutalist Pink – Vinyl Listening Station, originally developed for a hybrid record store in Berlin's Mitte district, made from wooden frame, dense foam, and pigmented epoxy.
