Rediscovered Brazilian Women Writers Gain New Editions and Recognition
An initiative to rediscover overlooked Brazilian female authors from the 19th and 20th centuries is gaining traction. Journalist Ramon Nunes Mello has reissued the writings of Adalgisa Nery (1905-1980) through José Olympio, marking 35 years since her last book. Nery, known for her political journalism, produced both poetry and prose, with her 1948 work 'Cantos da Angústia' showcasing her inner struggles. Mello intends to release a poetry collection and short stories by the end of the year. In 2015, journalist Daniela Lima revived the works of Maura Lopes Cançado (1929-1993). Researcher Anna Faedrich helped reprint Albertina Bertha's (1880-1953) novel 'Exaltação' in 2016. Editora Mulheres has also reissued Júlia Lopes de Almeida's writings, striving to reshape Brazilian literary history.
