Rediscovered Blue Folder Reveals Young Vittorio Sereni's First Poetry Collection

A blue folder found in an archive has brought to light a typescript collection of eighteen poems by Vittorio Sereni, dedicated to his friend Piero Gazzola on February 5, 1934. At the time, Sereni was just over twenty years old and had recently arrived in Milan to study at the Faculty of Letters. The poems, arranged in chronological order, represent his first attempt to compile his youthful production, spanning from his high school years in Brescia to his initial experiences in the big city and university environment. The encounter with Gazzola, five years his senior and already an architecture graduate, took place at the university. Gazzola (1908-1979), a notable figure in monument restoration and protection, would later serve as Superintendent in Verona after World War II, where he was distinguished in the reconstruction of bridges. This discovery offers a rare glimpse into the early creative process of the future poet of 'Strumenti umani' and literary director of Mondadori.
