Reddit has revealed its intention to modify Old Reddit, the legacy desktop version established 21 years ago, to safeguard the platform against harmful scraping and spamming activities. In a blog update, the company indicated that it will gradually implement changes to Old Reddit. In the interim, users will still need to log in to access the site, while efforts will be made to transition essential bots and moderator functions to the updated system. This decision follows a late July requirement for users to log in to use Old Reddit, as a Reddit employee highlighted that the logged-out experience was a major contributor to abusive scraping and automated traffic. Concerns have emerged among long-term users who favor the traditional layout and navigation.
