Recovered 1987 Paintings, New Walser Anthology Released, and Zwirner & Wirth Host Old Masters Exhibition
In 1987, eight artworks vanished from Noortman Master Paintings in Maastricht, The Netherlands, but were recovered 22 years later thanks to a Dutch police initiative. Among the stolen pieces was La Clairière by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. In a separate development, a new collection of translated essays by critic Robert Walser has been published, providing insights pertinent to modern discussions. Additionally, the Zwirner & Wirth gallery in New York City is hosting "Old School," an exhibition from June 27 to August 31 at 32 East 69 Street. This show contrasts paintings from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries with contemporary art, featuring nearly thirty landscapes, still lifes, and figure paintings to examine generational differences.
