Recontemporary Opens Turin's First Video Art Club
The non-profit association Recontemporary, founded by Iole Pellion di Persano, has opened a dedicated video art space in Turin's historic center. Located near the Mole Antonelliana and the University of Turin, the venue spans two floors: a ground-floor lounge for screenings, talks, and conferences, furnished in partnership with Gebrüder Thonet Vienna, and a 300-square-meter basement exhibition space (opening spring 2020) in former foundry cellars. Pellion di Persano, a curator and collector, describes it as Italy's first video art club, filling a gap in Turin's art scene. The space will feature works from major collections in Russia, Spain, and the Netherlands. Recontemporary also launches the Rec Award in 2020 for artists under 35, with a call from March to May. Its debut exhibition, Order Act.I Eat the Rich- Kill the Poor by Spanish collective DEMOCRACIA, runs until October 26. From November 1-26, it presents Camille Llobet's Risvolto in collaboration with Galerie Florence Loewy, also showing at Artissima Telephone (November 1-3 at OGR). From November 28 to January 18, 2020, during the Torino Film Festival, it hosts Becoming Future with Loop Barcelona. Educational programs for middle school students are curated by Giulia Turcati and Pellion di Persano.
