Recommended: New Rome Gallery Dedicated to Emerging Artists

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Art critics Francesca Longo and Raffaele Gavarro have launched Recommended, a project hosted by Chiaroscuro Arte Contemporanea in Rome, aimed at giving recent graduates and soon-to-graduate artists from academies their first exhibition opportunity. The non-profit space, founded by Longo in 2017, is located at Via Sant'Antonio all'Esquilino. The initiative focuses on students from Rome's Accademia di Belle Arti (ABA) and RUFA, with curators from Roman academies and universities. The first exhibition, opening October 16, 2020, features artist Vito Gara (born 1992, Putignano) curated by Fabiola Fiocco (born 1993, Colleferro). Gara holds a diploma in Sculpture and New Technologies from ABA Roma; Fiocco has a master's in Art History from Roma Tre University and a MA in Museology from the Reinwardt Academie in Amsterdam. The project will later expand to include artists and curators from Italian and foreign institutions. Internships for students are also part of the program, with Giulia Romolo from RUFA as the first intern. Upcoming exhibitions include Amedeo Longo (Nov 12-28, 2020), Andrea Lo Giudice (Dec 10-23, 2020), Elisa Garofani (Jan 14-31, 2021), Alessandro Matera (Feb 11-28, 2021), Camilla Gurgone (Mar 11-28, 2021), Francesco Poiana (Apr 8-24, 2021), and Claudio Pantò (May 6-23, 2021).
