Recent Archaeological Discoveries in Italy and Ireland
In Rome's Parioli district, excavations revealed a section of the ancient Via Salaria Vetus, paved with basalt, along with a Roman tomb located at a depth of 1–1.5 meters. This road segment spans four meters in both length and width, featuring crepidines. The tomb is characteristic of the Salaria Vetus cemetery, the final resting place of Saint Hermes. The excavation is directed by Fabrizio Santi, with contributions from archaeologists Cesare Baglieri, Angela Conti, and Viviana Petraroli. Additionally, a funerary complex dating back 2,300 years was discovered at Via Appia 39 in Parco della Caffarella, comprising family rooms and a columbarium, as part of the 'Via Appia Antica 39' initiative led by Professor Rachele Dubbini. In Rimini, remnants of the ancient Via Ariminensis and roughly thirty Roman burials were uncovered. Meanwhile, in Cork Harbour, Ireland, Carraig á Mhaistin was recognized as a megalithic dolmen.
