Recanati Exhibition Celebrates Argentine Comic Masters

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The Museo Civico di Villa Colloredo Mels in Recanati, Italy, opens 'Nuvole migranti – L’Argentina del fumetto da L’Eternauta a Dago' on May 4, 2024, running until August 4. The exhibition features over sixty original comic artworks never before shown in Italy, honoring legendary Argentine cartoonists from the second half of the 20th century. Highlights include works by Alberto and Enrique Breccia, Juan Zanotto, Domingo Mandrafina, and Francisco Solano Lopez, who illustrated the iconic 'L'Eternauta' written by Héctor Germán Oesterheld—the basis for an upcoming Netflix series. The show underscores the deep historical ties between the Marche region and Argentina, where over 200,000 Marche workers migrated between 1876 and the post-WWII period. Today, many Argentines of Italian descent are returning to Italy due to Argentina's economic crisis and soaring inflation.
