Rebecca Moccia's 'Ministries of Loneliness' at Gwangju Biennale Italian Pavilion
The Italian Pavilion at the 2024 Gwangju Biennale in South Korea presents a solo exhibition by Rebecca Moccia titled 'Ministries of Loneliness', running from September 7 to December 1, 2024, at the Dong-gok Museum of Art. This is only the second participation of the Italian Pavilion at the Biennale. The exhibition, curated by Soik Jung, explores the relationship between the individual (I) and the collective (We) in the context of societal collapse and isolation. Moccia's project, inspired by the UK's Ministry of Loneliness established in 2018, examines the political and social structures shaping loneliness. The show features a transmedia and immersive installation including multichannel audio-video works, photographs, and ceramics, developed through workshops with students from the Seoul Institute of the Arts. The exhibition is presented by the Italian Institute of Culture in Seoul, the Italian Embassy in Korea, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, organized with the Bomun Welfare Foundation and supported by Mazzoleni gallery.
