Rebecca Moccia’s Lockdown Performance on Artribune Podcast

publication · 2026-04-27

Rebecca Moccia (born 1992, Naples) is the subject of the latest episode of 'Monologhi al telefono,' a podcast series curated by Donatella Giordano on Artribune. Moccia, who has been active since her first solo show in 2015, recently created a site-specific intervention at the Museo Novecento in Florence. In the podcast, she discusses a 2012 work involving a clod of earth planted with basil watered daily with rose water, describing the artistic act as 'a gesture of love pursued in the simple attitude of care for the things of the world.' Currently an artist fellow at Castro Projects in Rome, Moccia performed an action from her condominium terrace during the COVID-19 lockdown, recorded on April 27, 2020, and published just before the lockdown ended. The performance reimagined her daily route from home to her studio in Trastevere, weaving biographical experiences with stories of historical figures and local characters, including Jean-Luc Godard, Mario Schifano, Cy Twombly, De Dominicis, Gregory Corso, Fernanda Pivano, Bernardo Bertolucci, Romolo al Giardino della Fornarina, Folkstudio, Bob Dylan, and contemporary Roman trap musicians Carl Brave and Franco 126. The work is part of the online project 'Castro Quarantined' under Castro's Studio Program.
