Rebecca Birch hosts lichen-themed bar night for ArtReview's FutureGreats launch
Rebecca Birch, a British artist recognized as a FutureGreat in 2014, organized a bar night at ArtReview's venue to celebrate the release of the March FutureGreats issue. The evening included discussions and performances from Dr. Jussi Parikka, Karen di Franco, Erica Scourti, and Francesco Pedraglio, all centering on a lichen-covered stick that has been in Birch's car since 2011. Two cocktails were crafted by Absolut: Absolut Wild Tea and Absolut raspberri. Music for the event was curated by artist Bram Thomas Arnold, featuring various artists. Parikka, associated with Winchester School of Art and author of Insect Media (2010) and What is Media Archaeology? (2012), explored the connection between lichen, media, and ecology. Di Franco presented 'Trouble with Lichen,' Scourti shared 'Inner Planets,' and Pedraglio alluded to 'acertainrealism.com.'
