Rebecca: A Medieval Comic Series by Anna Brandoli and Renato Queirolo Debuted in Linus in the Early 1980s

In the early 1980s, the comic series Rebecca, created by Anna Brandoli and Renato Queirolo, was published in the magazine Linus, then edited by Oreste del Buono. The series stood out from other stories in the publication due to its medieval theme, female protagonist—the Romani woman Rebecca—and sharp black-and-white graphics. It followed the earlier story La Strega, which shared some historical thematic similarities but differed in narrative and graphic rhythm. A passion for heretical movements, which proliferated in Europe from the late Middle Ages and led to the foundation of Protestantism, is evident throughout. These movements were opposed by the Church, which combated them with all means, especially after the Counter-Reformation, through Inquisition trials.
