Re-build in the Built Environment: Four Italian Architecture Projects at Triennale Milano

The exhibition 'Re-build in the built environment' at Triennale Milano explores the relationship between contemporary architecture, historical preservation, and the enhancement of built heritage. Curated by Simona Galateo, it presents four model projects by Italian architects: Renzo Piano's Morgan Library (2006), Michele De Lucchi's Gallerie d'Italia, OBR's Terrazza Triennale (2015), and the Tempio Capitolino in Brescia (2013). The show is promoted by Capoferri, an Italian company specializing in custom window frames that collaborated on all four projects. The exhibition also reopens three original windows designed by Giovanni Muzio in 1933, which had been walled up. The installation, designed by Piovenefabi, unfolds in three acts: the reopening of the windows, a wall showcasing over forty samples of wood and steel details from Capoferri, and a central cruciform structure in sandblasted stainless steel displaying photographs by Giovanna Silva and architectural drawings. The exhibition emphasizes sustainability and good practices in preserving and managing cultural heritage, aligning with the European Year of Cultural Heritage. Galateo describes 're-build' as a synonym for recycling, shifting focus from the dominance of existing values to design principles that enable new life cycles and improve energy efficiency.
