Raymond Depardon Retrospective 'La vita moderna' Opens at Triennale Milano
Triennale Milano has inaugurated 'La vita moderna', a major retrospective of French photographer and filmmaker Raymond Depardon (born 1942 in Villefranche-sur-Saône). The exhibition is part of a partnership between Triennale and Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain in Paris, with whom Depardon has collaborated for thirty years. Depardon co-founded the Gamma agency in 1966 and joined Magnum Photos in 1979. He has also directed 25 feature-length films, many with Claudine Nougaret, presented at Cannes or awarded Césars. The show runs until April 10, 2022. Curated with input from painter Jean-Michel Alberola and scenographer Thea Alberola, the exhibition is designed for the Italian public, opening and closing with Italian series: 'Piemonte' and 'San Clemente'—the latter documenting psychiatric hospitals before Italy's Basaglia Law. Grazia Quaroni, director of Cartier collections, discussed the show. The partnership has previously featured exhibitions of Claudia Andujar and Guillermo Kuitca. Future projects include the 23rd Triennale exposition in summer 2022, with Fondation Cartier participating.
