Ray Kappe's Uncharacteristic Curvilinear Tempo House in Hollywood Hills Nears Sale

architecture-design · 2026-04-30

The Tempo House, designed by Ray Kappe, has attracted a contingent offer after hitting the market for nearly $3 million on April 10. Constructed in the late 1950s for Earl and Betty Clemmons, this Hollywood Hills gem stands out with its flowing curves, featuring smooth white stucco, a circular pool with a fountain, and a cylindrical fireplace. The Getty Research Institute holds its original blueprints due to their distinctive style. The home was occupied by actor Chuck McCann and his wife, Betty Fanning, until they passed away in 2018 and early 2026. Now under the McCann Trust, the 4,700-square-foot residence includes four bedrooms, four baths, and a two-story theater added in the early 2000s. Agents Brent Watson and Marco Salari call it a 'dream restoration project.' Kappe, who died in 2019 at 92, was a renowned architect and the founding director of SCI-Arc.
