Andrea Ravo Mattoni, known as Ravo, is a street artist hailing from Varese who trained at the Accademia di Brera. He creatively reinterprets masterpieces from the Baroque period, including works by Caravaggio, using spray paint on a large scale, effectively bridging the gap between street art and traditional museums. His initiatives encompass public lessons for schools and partnerships with prestigious institutions like the Louvre, where he has worked on projects in Nanterre and Jardin des Tuileries, as well as the Pinacoteca di Varallo Sesia. Ravo prefers to identify as a 'painter who uses spray' rather than a street artist, emphasizing the significance of copying as an age-old tradition. He has completed notable works, including 'Le Tricheur à l'as de carreau' in Paris and 'Sant'Andrea' at the Artrust gallery in Switzerland. Recently, he finished a project at the Château Royal d'Amboise to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci's death. Coming from a lineage of artists—his father Carlo, grandfather Italo Giovanni, and uncle Alberto Matal—Ravo highlights the influence of social media, particularly Instagram, in promoting art. He envisions a promising future for urban art but hopes for enhanced professional curation. His 2020 schedule is already packed with projects across France, Italy, and Switzerland.
