Ravenna province rediscovers painter Piero Dosi with three-venue retrospective

A major retrospective dedicated to Piero Dosi, a painter from Lugo who died in 2016, opens on December 3 across three venues in the Ravenna province. Curated by Claudio Musso, the exhibition "Piero Dosi. La Pittura dentro" runs until January 14, 2018, at the Pescherie della Rocca di Lugo, the Museo Civico di San Rocco in Fusignano, and the Museo Luigi Varoli in Cotignola. The project includes a monograph, an anastatic reprint of one of Dosi's diaries ("I giardini di Ravenna", 1984), and a website serving as an ongoing archive. The exhibition is structured in three sections: the first, at Lugo, focuses on early works (1977-1980) featuring self-portraits, portraits of artists, hyperrealism, collage, and mirrors; the second, at Fusignano, covers the artist's mature period (1981-2000) with gardens, landscapes, and figures rendered in a material approach blending figuration and abstraction; the third, at Cotignola, presents drawings, watercolors, and a video installation documenting Dosi's activity between 1980 and 1984, based on his diaries. Musso notes Dosi's affinity with the Transavanguardia and Nuovi Nuovi in Italy, as well as with German and Austrian artists like the Neuen Wilden, while maintaining a solitary path. The curatorial team also involved Massimiliano Fabbri and Riccardo Baruzzi, who contributed a text on "free drawing" to the monograph. The initiative was supported by local municipalities and the region.
